Off-campus training programme on Canopy Management in Fruit Crops conducted for Tribal farmers of Jawadhu Hills, Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu
An off-campus training programme on “Canopy management in Fruit crops” was conducted on December 2, 2025 for Tribal farmers of Jawadhu Hills, Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. T. H. Singh, Principal Scientist & Nodal officer (Tribal Sub Plan) and further explained about various benefits of ICAR-IIHR Tribal Sub Plan activities for Tribal of the country. Dr. V. Sankar, Principal Scientist & Member secretary (Tribal Sub Plan) explained about various improved varieties and hybrids of vegetable crops suitable to grow under Jawadhu Hills conditions. Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist & Head (i/c), Division of Social Sciences and Training, explained about various canopy management technologies followed in fruit crops like Mango, Guava, Custard Apple etc. Participants were taken to the demonstration field and given hands on training in pruning, training and other canopy management practices. Afterwards they visited the National Horticultural Fair demonstration field. The programme was attended by 20 tribal farmers including seven women, of Jawadhu Hills. At the end of the programme ICAR-IIHR inputs like Bio-fertilizers, Bio-pesticides, Vegetable Micro-nutrients, Vegetable seed kits, Vegetable kitchen garden kit and Custard Apple (Arka Sahan) plants were distributed to all the beneficiaries.
