Dr. B.M.C. Reddy served as Acting Director of ICAR-IIHR from 01.05.2002 to 28.07.2002. Born on 1 January 1947, he earned his B.Sc. from A.P. Agricultural University, Hyderabad (1969), M.Sc. from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar (1972), and Ph.D. in Horticulture from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (1988). Over 24 years, his work focused on crop production for pineapple, grape, banana, and citrus — examining rootstocks, training methods, spacing, nutrition, and growth regulators. He developed comprehensive cultivation packages for pineapple and banana, advancing high-density planting and optimized nutritional protocols for banana. Recognition includes AIPUB Fellowship (2002), AAPMHE National Award (1997), and Outstanding Scientist Award (2000).
