Dr. G.S.R. Murti served as Acting Director of ICAR-IIHR from 07.11.2007 to 30.06.2008. Born on 27 June 1946 in Andhra Pradesh, he earned his B.Sc. from Andhra University (1964), M.Sc. Agriculture from Sardar Patel University (1968), and Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from IARI, New Delhi (1972). He received the ICAR Gold Medal for his Ph.D. work. His career began at CPRI, Shimla before he transferred to IIHR, Bangalore in 1979, where he rose to Principal Scientist and served as Head of the Division of Plant Physiology & Biochemistry. His research focused on physiology of flowering and fruiting in horticultural crops, vigor-regulation in mango, and physiological tolerance in vegetable crops against water and temperature stress.
