Incorporation of bacterial blight resistance in pomegranate

Collection, hybridization and evaluation of pomegranate, strawberry and passion fruit germplasm and hybrids

• Eight indigenous and 120 exotic types in pomegranate were collected from USDA.    
• Screening was carried out in over 1000 pomegranate (Daru) progenies.
• Hundred and fifty accessions were screened for bacterial blight by pin-prick method of detached leaf technique.
• Twenty eight pomegranate lines with superior characteristics were selected from a population exposed to mutagenic treatments. Hybridization was effected between Blight tolerant accessions and Bhagwa.
