Activities of Genetics and Plant Breeding club at ICAR-IIHR AIM HIGH: Opportunities for Training and Studies Abroad

The GPB club, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research organized an Interaction Program on study and training possibilities abroad on 04.01.2025. The event featured Dr. Mithila Jugulam, Director of Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Centre in Beaumont, USA, as the Chief Guest. The session aimed to explore opportunities overseas for building a successful career in the US as an international student. Drawing from her experiences, she highlighted the extensive opportunities available and the transformative impact of global education. She urged participants not to set limits on themselves, to remain resilient, and to avoid placing boundaries on themselves. As a prospective student, she highlighted the importance of fostering communication, problem-solving skills, teamwork, and networking abilities that the international faculty values.

Dr. Hima Bindu, Principal Scientist in the Division of Flower and Medicinal Crops, welcomed all attendees and provided an overview of Dr. Mithila's professional background. Dr. Tusar Kanti Behara, the Director of ICAR-IIHR in Bengaluru, provided introductory comments and shared his experiences as an international student in the United States and underscored the significance of global exposure in today's interconnected world.Dr. Tejaswini Prakash, Discipline Coordinator for GPB, motivated participants to dream big and utilize all the available sources. During the discussion, participants posed questions about research advancements and job opportunities in the horticulture industry in the USA. The event attracted a sizable and enthusiastic crowd of students and faculty interested in discovering global academic and career possibilities.
