Off-campus training on “Scientific Composting Techniques” and Input Distribution under TSP and DST-Vigyandhara Project on 22.12.2025

23 Dec 2025

An off-campus training programme on “Scientific Composting Techniques” and input distribution was organized on 22nd December 2025 at Kurubarahalli village, Bengaluru Urban, under the TSP Programme and DST-Vigyandhara project. Nearly 50 farmers took part in the training programme. The objective of the training programme was to promote sustainable soil health management practices and encourage the adoption of eco-friendly agricultural practices. The training programme also marked the celebration of National Kisan Diwas. The training programme began with welcome and orientation about the objectives and scope of the TSP and DST-Vigyandhara project by Dr. Ramya H.R., Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training. She highlighted the importance of farmer participation in project activities and emphasized the role of scientific interventions in improving productivity, income, and long-term sustainability of farming systems. Dr. T. H. Singh, Principal Scientist, Division of Vegetable Crops and Nodal Officer (TSP), explained the various activities undertaken under the TSP programme and elaborated on improved vegetable crop technologies developed by ICAR-IIHR. He stressed the need for close cooperation between farmers and scientists for effective implementation and successful outcomes of the TSP programme. Dr. Radha T. K., Senior Scientist, Division of Natural Resource Management delivered a detailed lecture on soil health management practices, focusing on the role of organic matter, compost, and biological inputs in maintaining soil fertility. She explained the benefits and application methods of inputs such as Vegetable Special, Arka Microbial Consortium (AMC), and neem soap for improving crop growth and managing pests in an eco-friendly manner. The programme also included a visit to a nearby farmer’s field, where a live demonstration on scientific composting using Arka Decomposer was conducted, and providing farmers with hands-on practical exposure. The programme concluded with an interaction session (farmer-scientist interaction), during which farmers shared their experiences, raised field-level queries, and received technical guidance on soil health management practices. At the end of the programme, various inputs such as Arka seed kits, neem soap, AMC, and planting materials such as of avocado(Arka Supreme grafted plants ) and Jackfruit (Siddu grafted plants ,) were distributed to the participating farmers to facilitate immediate adoption of the demonstrated technologies and strengthen sustainable farming practices in the village.
