Demonstration of Arka onion seeder to women farmers at Byrappanahalli Village

A result demonstration of the Arka Onion Seeder along with an off-campus training programme on improved production technology of onion was conducted on 16 March 2026 in the field of progressive farmers Mrs. Shailaja and Mr. Venkata Reddy at Byrappanahalli village, Chikkaballapura district under the DST-Vigyandhara-4305 project.

The programme highlighted the transition of women farmers from manual sowing to mechanized sowing using the Arka Onion Seeder. Benefits showcased included: quick/efficient sowing, uniform spacing, reduction in labour and drudgery, optimum bulb size, and reduced disease incidence.

A training session on improved onion production technologies was also conducted. Inputs distributed included Arka Microbial Consortium, Arka Neem Soap, Arka Vegetable Special, and traps. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ramya H. R, Dr. A. Carolin Rathinakumari and Dr. B. Balakrishna, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru.
