Shri. P.R. Ramchander served as Acting Director of ICAR-IIHR from 01.02.1994 to 20.03.1994. Born on 18 January 1940 in Kerala, he completed his Post-graduate degree in Mathematics (1960) and earned a Diploma in Agricultural Statistics from IASRI (1963). Over a 37-year career spanning four leading agricultural institutions, he served as Head of Statistics sections. His research focused on statistical applications to perennial crops, biometrical genetics, insect ecology, and epidemiology. Notable contributions include developing a seedling selection technique for areca nut using the Selection Index, identifying optimal climates for extra-long-staple cotton cultivation, and creating India's first comprehensive horticultural guidance software. He authored more than 150 research papers, 5 popular articles, and 2 books. Recognition includes Fellowship from the Indian Genetic Society (1967) and designation as "International Man of the Millennium" by the International Biographical Center, Cambridge (1999).
